Borussia Dortmund beats Man United in a Vegas 3-2 in a friendly match on Sunday, with Youssoufa Moukoko’s second-half strike proving to be the difference in an entertaining clash at the Allegiant Stadium.
The English Premier League giants were made to pay for a number of defensive errors, as Donyell Malen scored twice in the first half for Dortmund. United equalized through Antony in the second half, but Moukoko’s clinical finish sealed the win for the Bundesliga side.
United manager Erik ten Hag named a virtual reserve team for the start, leaving Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and new signing Mason Mount on the bench.
Still, United’s makeshift starting XI was more than a match for Dortmund in the first half, dominating for long periods before Diogo Dalot gave the Red Devils the lead with a long-range strike in the 24th minute.
But Dortmund turned the game around in the dying minutes of the first half, with Dutch international forward Donyell Malen scoring twice in a minute.
The first chance came when United’s defense failed to stop Karim Adeyemi’s cross from the right flank.
Despite the attention of a group of United defenders, Adeyemi was able to square for Malen, who hooked the ball home from close range.
Malen doubled his tally a minute later, this time latching onto a United howler when Victor Lindelof lost possession inside the box in an attempt to clear from behind.
United were fortunate not to be 3-1 down early in the second half when another defensive slip, this time by Harry Maguire, allowed Sebastian Haller to have a shot on goal.
United goalkeeper Andre Onana made a save and then breathed a sigh of relief as Adeyemi fired the follow-up wide of the post.
United equalized in the 52nd minute when Brazilian forward Antony slotted home a low shot from inside the box after Dortmund’s experienced Mats Hummels failed to clear.
Ten Hag made changes with 30 minutes remaining, with Rashford immediately providing more attacking threat. But it was Dortmund who scored the decisive goal, with experienced Marco Reus setting up Moukoko for the winner.
